WELCOME!
We
would like to welcome you to the The Aquatic Club of the West Shore Sea Serpents Swim Team.
This "handbook" has been created as a resource for new and
current members to answer questions they may have about our organization. Any concerns that have not been covered or explained
clearly may be brought to the attention of the Coaches and/or the Parent
Organization.
HISTORY
The
team has been a successful activity for the youth, in the past through the cooperation of
the recreation department, and now the school district and the parents'
organization.
In
1997-1998 an agreement between Central Pennsylvania Swimming, Inc., West Shore
Recreation and Leisure Services (WSRec), and the School District was reached.
This agreement basically allowed CPS, Inc. to provide coaching for
WSRec in turn for natatorium time.
In
the summer of 1998 WSRec began a mini swim team for ages 5 to 8 years.
In 1999-2000 seasons the mini-team and the regular team together were
"joined" together and we have the current full "SEA
SERPENTS SWIM TEAM".
In
the winter of 2004, after a year and a half of planning, the Parent
Organization petitioned and received permission to become a free standing club
under the direct control of the Parent Organization. Thus, the
Aquatic
Club of the West Shore (ACWS) was established with its first
competitive season being Summer
2004.
DIVISIONALS:
After the Dual Season, each division will have a combined meet with all teams
within the division. The
coach will discuss with the child and/or parents who will go to the meet and
what events the athlete will compete in. The top finishers (standards set by league) of the
competition of all divisions and of their respective age group and event will
qualify for the All-Star Meet.
ALL
STARS: This meet is the
final championship. Athletes
from the East & West Shores compete together to decide the champions for
the Central Penn and Capital Area Leagues. The parent organization will pay the entrance fee.
INVITATIONAL
MEETS:
These are meets that specific clubs have throughout the season and as a
team or individuals you can compete.
The team will be notified of these meets.
The coach will suggest what events the athlete will participate in.
Fees are to be paid by the individual.

PRACTICE
& COACHES
Similar
to the teacher-student relationship in the school classroom, the coach-swimmer
relationship must be developed and a practice routine established. Since the
balcony can not be opened for liability reasons, our
coaches would very much appreciate parents viewing practice from the upstairs
windows.
If
an emergency arises, and you need to talk to your swimmer during practice,
please see a coach first. The coaches will gladly address parent questions or
concerns before or after practice.
